Assurance Of Forgiveness
The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger, and great in mercy.
The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.
The Lord is near to all that call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth. He fulfills the desire of all who fear Him; He also hears their cry and saves them.
(Psalm 145:8-9, 18-19)
The good news is that God saves us through our Lord, His Son Jesus Christ.
Being in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

Affirmation Of Faith - “A Brief Statement of Faith” (11.1, 3, 5 & 6)
In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God’s image, male and female, of every race and people, to live as one community. But we rebel against God; we hide from our Creator. Ignoring God’s commandments, we violate the image of God in others and ourselves, accept lies as truth, exploit neighbor and nature, and threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care. We deserve God’s condemnation. Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation. In everlasting love, the God of Abraham and Sarah chose a covenant people to bless all families of the earth. Hearing their cry, God delivered the children of Israel from the house of bondage. Loving us still, God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant. Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home, God is faithful still. With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Call to Worship
If God is for us, who can be against us? Nothing can separate us from God’s love. (Romans 8:31, 39)
The Lord upholds those who are falling; God raises those who are bowed down. (Psalm 145:14)
Jesus said: “Ask, and it will be given to you; for everyone who asks receives.”
(Luke 11:9–10)
Jesus also said: “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give your rest.”  (Matthew 11:28)
Come, let us worship God, who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!
Prayer of Confession
Almighty God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are a sinful people, living solely by Your grace. We think our way is the only way. Forgive us for not seeking Your way. Divisions separate us from You and one another. We carry past hurts, grudges, and unforgiving hearts against one another and You. Forgive us, O Lord, for not passing on the grace You have shown us. Have mercy on us so that we may have mercy on others who have wronged us. May the dividing wall of hostility be broken down, and may our divisions be reconciled in You, O God, in one body through the cross of Jesus. Help us to grow into a holy temple in the Lord Jesus, the very cornerstone of life and salvation. Amen.

(Silent prayer of personal confession.)
Call to Confession
This is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel, says the Lord:
I will put My law within them, and I will write upon their hearts;
And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
I will forgive their evil deeds, and I will remember their sin no more.
(Jeremiah 31:33-34)
In penitence and faith, let us confess our sins to the Almighty God.

Do not lose heart.
God strengthens us through the Spirit and Christ who dwells in our hearts.
Be rooted and grounded in the love of God.

Lord God, Who has given us all we have by Your generous hand, we come to You to offer thanksgiving for our many blessings and to dedicate our gifts and ourselves to You, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Preparation For Worship (Reading before service for quiet meditation)
Theologian Dr. Shirley Guthrie writes about the revelation of God: “In the Bible, where we learn about the self-revealing God, ‘to know’ God does not mean to know about God, …. To know God means to experience God, to have a personal relationship with God. …. To know God’s love is not just to believe in a theory of the love of God; it is to experience God’s loving action (Deuteronomy 4:32-40). To know God is to acknowledge, confess, honor, thank, and serve God.”  (p. 54, Christian Doctrine (revised edition)

Special Music - “Shepherd Me, O God"
Composed by Marty Haugen
Soloist - Kay Garner

Shepherd me, O God, beyond my wants, beyond my fears, from death into life.
God is my shepherd, so nothing shall I want, I rest in the meadows of faithfulness and love,
I walk by the quiet waters of peace.

Shepherd me, O God, beyond my wants, beyond my fears, from death into life.
Gently you raise me and heal my weary soul,
you lead me by pathways of righteousness and truth,
my spirit shall sing the music of your name.

Shepherd me, O God, beyond my wants, beyond my fears, from death into life.
Though I should wander the valley of death, I fear no evil, for you are at my side,
your rod and your staff, my comfort and my hope.

Shepherd me, O God, beyond my wants, beyond my fears, from death into life.
You have set me a banquet of love in the face of hatred,
crowning me with love beyond my power to hold.

Shepherd me, O God, beyond my wants, beyond my fears, from death into life.
Surely your kindness and mercy follow me all the days of my life;
I will dwell in the house of my God forevermore.
Shepherd me, O God, beyond my wants, beyond my fears, from death into life.
Now to Him Who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than we can ask or imagine, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
